About Us

Barry Grenenger from Bazs Pumps Pools & Irrigation in Bega, NSW started off as a dairy and chicken meat farmer, long before he got into pumps.

It was when his home tragically burnt to the ground, and he lost everything and had to start over, that led him to work for a local “old timer” in the pump business, which led to Barry branching out on his own some ten years later. Back in 2010 the business was a one-man band and a year later he was joined by his right-hand man, Dan. Dan has been an integral part of the business and together, he and Barry look after their big and small clients as well as overseeing the workshop and store.  Barry’s now 27-year-old daughter has been helping out in the business since she was 17, and now works the front counter of the retail shop. Not long after opening up the shop in Bega Street, Barry was approached by the local Davey rep – and after some discussion they took a “few” pumps on. As history will show it didn’t take long after that visit for them to become a Davey Master Dealer, and they haven’t looked back.

“Davey is so well known for their yellow pumps and being an “Australian” brand, it just works for us” Barry says. “The Davey reps also offer great support to us through their knowledge of the industry and the equipment.”

A typical day for Barry starts at 7am either in the retail shop, the workshop or out on the road working with customers on their projects. Downtime is a word he seldom uses, and you will most likely find him working every second weekend, but he still seems to find time to support nearly every sport going in the area. “From football, golf, pony and jump clubs and even squash, we like to lend a hand and have sponsored them all in some way.” Bega in the south east corner of NSW is well known for its dairy farms and cheese production, so it’s no surprise that Barry has worked for almost ninety percent of the dairy farmers in the district in some capacity. “We work on everything from washdown pumps in the dairy right out to pumping water up for the cattle and irrigation for pasture. Nearly every dairy we work on has a Davey Dynaflo - they’re such a robust pump and haven’t changed much over the years, so to me that spells reliability,” Barry explains. In the past 12-18 months, Barry has seen the business change a lot. The drought was starting to impact the area, but the recent rains over the past six months have settled things down. Hard times meant a big shift in spending, with customers looking for new seals and repairs to their old pumps whereas before they would buy a new one if they had a breakdown. People are just looking to save where they can.
