John Russell says it’s the kind of business people feel connected to. “Today we have a staff of about 18, and many of our people have worked here for up to 40 years. Some people leave but they seem to make their way back. The business is like a rolling stone – new family members and staff come in and out, but the business just keeps going.” Russell and Sons started out as a dairy engineering business and to this day John, his nephew Andrew and the team still work closely with the dairy industry. “It was a natural progression for us to go from that dairy business into pumps and there’s still a lot of dairy operating in this region. We’re also doing a lot more in filtration these days and working with customers to help them find the best way to get clean, safe water from their tanks to their homes. “We don’t try to be everything to everyone. If we concentrate on what we know and what we do well, there's more than enough business coming our way to keep us happy.” The business’s association with Davey began in the early 1970s, and John says it has evolved into a strong partnership over the years.

“We’ve gotten to know each other pretty well over the years,” John says. In clocking up 87 years in operation, Russell and Sons has become an icon in the local community, and John says the family works hard to maintain its reputation. “We focus on giving the very best possible service and we really do value our customers. We have a high number of returning customers,” he says. “It’s encouraging to see people come back year after year. If someone needs something, they can come to us.”
